Started at Højbjerg BK in Aarhus and won the junior World Championship in 2010 at 16. Took bronze at Rio 2016 beating Lin Dan in the bronze playoff, then Olympic gold in Tokyo 2020 followed by a successful gold defense in Paris 2024 — joining Lin Dan as the only male singles players to win back-to-back Olympic titles. Retired in April 2026 at 32 after a persistent back injury halted training for the LA28 cycle; at 6'4" he set the standard for the modern attacking game.
Questions & answers 1
-
QWhat racquet does Viktor Axelsen use?
-
AAxelsen plays a Yonex Astrox 100 ZZ - a stiff, head-heavy frame that suits his tall power-singles game. Bear in mind pros use custom-painted retail frames, so an off-the-shelf 100 ZZ is the closest you can buy, not an exact replica.
